"Best beaches" lists are a dime a dozen, and most of them include places that are either impossible to reach, prohibitively expensive, or wildly overhyped. This isn't that list. Every beach here is one we've sent clients to, that's accessible by cruise ship, resort transfer, or a reasonable taxi ride, and that delivers on its promise when you actually show up with your towel and sunscreen.
These are the Caribbean beaches worth planning a trip around.
1. Grace Bay Beach — Turks and Caicos
Grace Bay tops nearly every "best beaches" list in the world, and it deserves to. Five kilometres of powder-fine white sand, water so clear it looks like glass, and a protective reef that keeps waves gentle and the swimming perfect. Unlike some famous beaches that disappoint in person, Grace Bay actually exceeds expectations. The sand doesn't get hot. The water stays shallow for a long way out. And the light at sunset turns everything gold.
How to visit: Direct flights from Toronto (Air Canada, WestJet). Also a stop on some Eastern Caribbean cruise itineraries.
2. Eagle Beach — Aruba
Wide, white, and windswept, Eagle Beach is distinguished by the iconic divi-divi trees that bend permanently toward the sea. It's spacious enough that even in peak season you'll find room to breathe, and the calm, warm water is ideal for swimming. The fact that Aruba sits below the hurricane belt means Eagle Beach is gorgeous 365 days a year.
How to visit: Direct flights from Toronto. Regular stop on Southern Caribbean cruises.
3. Seven Mile Beach — Grand Cayman
Seven Mile Beach is the gold standard for the "long, gorgeous stretch of public beach backed by resorts" category. The sand is soft, the water is calm and clear, and the entire beach is public — meaning you can walk past the Ritz-Carlton and the Westin without any barriers. Beach bars and water sports operators are spaced along the length, so you're never far from a cold drink or a kayak.
How to visit: A popular Western Caribbean cruise port. Taxi from the tender pier is about 10 minutes.
4. Grand Anse Beach — Grenada
A sweeping 3-kilometre crescent of golden sand on Grenada's southwest coast, Grand Anse is the kind of beach that makes you question every life decision that didn't lead you here sooner. The water is calm and warm, the backdrop is lush green hills, and the beach is never crowded because Grenada simply doesn't get the tourist volume of larger islands. The spice-scented air is a bonus.
How to visit: Southern Caribbean cruise itineraries frequently stop in Grenada. Direct flights from Toronto are seasonal.
5. Trunk Bay — St. John, US Virgin Islands
Part of Virgin Islands National Park, Trunk Bay is the most photographed beach in the US Virgin Islands — and once you see it, you understand why. The underwater snorkelling trail (a marked path along the reef with interpretive signs) is unique in the Caribbean, and the beach itself is a perfect arc of white sand backed by palm trees and jungle. Entry fee is $5 USD.
How to visit: Ferry from St. Thomas (a major Eastern Caribbean cruise port) to St. John takes 20 minutes. Taxi to Trunk Bay from the ferry dock.
6. Pigeon Point Beach — Tobago
Tobago's most famous beach lives up to the postcards. The iconic thatched-roof jetty extending over calm, aquamarine water is one of the most recognisable images in Caribbean tourism. The beach is well-maintained with facilities (changing rooms, food vendors, chair rentals) without feeling commercialised. The snorkelling at nearby Buccoo Reef and the Nylon Pool (a shallow offshore sandbar where you can stand waist-deep in the sea) complete the experience.
How to visit: Fly into Tobago from Trinidad (short hop) or seasonal flights from Toronto. Some Southern Caribbean cruises include Tobago.
7. Magens Bay — St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands
A heart-shaped bay enclosed by lush green hills, Magens Bay offers a mile of calm, protected water that's perfect for swimming and floating. The bay's shape shelters it from waves and current, making it one of the calmest swimming beaches in the Caribbean. National Geographic once named it one of the world's most beautiful beaches, and visitors consistently agree.
How to visit: St. Thomas is one of the most common Eastern Caribbean cruise ports. Taxi from the cruise port to Magens Bay is about 20 minutes. Entry fee is $5 USD.
8. Shoal Bay East — Anguilla
Anguilla is a small, flat island that punches enormously above its weight in the beach department. Shoal Bay East is two kilometres of brilliant white sand backed by beach bars and calm, reef-protected water. The snorkelling is excellent, the beach bars serve fresh-grilled lobster and rum punches, and the crowd is a mix of day-trippers and guests from Anguilla's boutique resorts. It's the Caribbean beach experience distilled to its essence.
How to visit: Day trip by ferry from St. Maarten/St. Martin (a major Eastern Caribbean cruise port). The ferry takes about 20 minutes.
9. Playa Kenepa (Knip Beach) — Curaçao
Tucked into a cliff-backed cove on Curaçao's western shore, Playa Kenepa is a local favourite with water that's an almost unreal shade of blue. The beach is divided into Grote Knip (larger, with facilities) and Klein Knip (smaller, quieter). The contrast between the red-brown cliffs, white sand, and electric blue water makes it one of the most visually striking beaches in the Caribbean. It's relatively undiscovered by cruise tourists, which is part of its charm.
How to visit: Southern Caribbean cruise stop. Taxi from the Willemstad cruise port takes about 40 minutes.
10. Flamenco Beach — Culebra, Puerto Rico
Regularly cited as the best beach in Puerto Rico (and sometimes the entire Caribbean), Flamenco Beach on the small island of Culebra is a horseshoe-shaped bay with powder-white sand and impossibly clear water. The rusted tanks on the beach — remnants of the US Navy's presence — have become quirky, graffiti-covered landmarks. The beach feels wild and uncommercial in the best possible way.
How to visit: Ferry from Ceiba, Puerto Rico (about 45 minutes). San Juan is a common cruise port, but Culebra is a full day trip from there. Best done on a pre- or post-cruise day in San Juan.
